Our Family Resource Center and Food Shelf in Rosemount serves as an open, welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and staff, and plan their individual paths to success. Staff and volunteers build trusting relationships with individuals and families in order to identify and remove barriers to help achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

Our volunteer positions are varied and can include: greeting customers, staff and guests, answer phone calls, connect customers to resources, assist customers with scheduling appointments, meet with customers when they come for food shelf appointments and complete necessary paperwork, stock shelves, put away food orders/deliveries, pack groceries for clients coming in for food or pick up food from Rosemount area retail sites who are donating excess food to us that is still within its code dates.  Training for all positions is provided.

We ask volunteers to be willing to commit to a minimum of one four hour shift per week.

Available Volunteer Opportunities:


We are looking for volunteers to help on Fridays when we are distributing Fresh Food to our clients. There are two different shift opportunities, as indicated below.  This is a rare opportunity where you can sign up for a single day and shift.  You do not need to commit to all the Fridays we have available

Prep/Set Up:

  • Sort incoming produce donations, organize produce by category and arrange for distribution.
  • Assemble distribution area (set up tents, tables and check in area)
  • Pre-package refrigerator items if available in ready to go bags
  • Ability to list a minimum of 25 pounds is required
  • Training will be provided
  • Shift time is 9 am to 11 am Fridays, July 27th through September 28th

Distribution/clean up:

  • Assist families with distribution of produce- up to 40 families picking up free fresh produce.
  • Keep produce bins restocked and organized during two hour distribution.
  • Assist families in check-in and completing household information cards.
  • If needed help families load vehicles with produce.
  • Clean up after distribution (move everything indoors, wipe down bins and tables, take down and put away tents).
  • Ability to list a minimum of 25 pounds is required
  • Training will be provided
  • Shift time is 11 am to 2 pm Fridays, July 27th through September 28th

Food Shelf

This volunteer opportunity includes; help the families as they grocery shop in the food shelf, bag and weigh families outgoing food, help load groceries into families’ vehicle, ensure shelves are well stocked, clean and organize the food shelf and other miscellaneous duties as identified. We require the ability to commit to one, 4 hour shift per week, on an on-going basis. Training will be provided.  Need to be able to lift up the equivalent of a full grocery bag (approximately 20 – 25 pounds).

Current Volunteer Shifts Available:

  • Tuesdays, the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month, noon – 4 pm
  • Thursdays, 10 am – 2 pm, weekly.

Quality Coordinator

Responsibilities include check incoming donated food items for code dates and freshness.  Help put away the food items and get the food shelf area organized for when clients arrive.  Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Current Volunteer Shift Available:

  • Tuesdays, 8 am – approximately 10 am


Rescue Food Pick Up, Relief Volunteer

We have a volunteer opportunity to help us by picking up donated food items at local retail grocers in and around Rosemount.

  • You will need to use your own vehicle and gas, have a valid drivers license plus carry insurance on your vehicle.
  • You will go to the designated retail location, pick up the donated food and immediately bring it back to the Rosemount Food Shelf. Unload, weigh and help put the items away in the appropriate temperature zone.
  • Need to be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Training will be provided prior to volunteering.
Current Volunteer Shifts Available:
We are looking for a couple of people who are willing to be a “fill-in” or “relief” volunteer, to help cover a “regular” volunteers shift when they are on vacation or not able to volunteer on their normal volunteer shift day. Pick up days happen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, beginning at approximately 8:30 or 9 am for 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the amount of food being donated each week.

Our food shelf is always in need of paper and/or plastic bags to be used for groceries. Please feel free to drop off any gently used and clean bags to the food shelf Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm.

Additionally. we are always in need of:

  • product donations.  The top 5 food items are canned fish & meat, cooking and baking items, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables plus rice, pasta and cereals.
  • baby items (food, formula, diapers and wipes)
  • household cleaning supplies
  • hygiene items (deodorant, toothpaste/tooth brush, shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc).
  • Feminine hygiene items (tampons, pads, depends)

Item can be dropped off to our food shelf Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm.
