THEME 3: Nurture innovative community partnerships supporting a competitive business climate.
What types of partnerships need to be created to accomplish each of these bubbles?
(Increase income among residents, community marketing and branding, attract and retain business)
- Shop closer to home.
- What can we do in education to support business and what can we do in business to support education?
- Get men to come in and volunteer in the schools one day a year – be there as a model for students.
- What is our Brand? Have incredible things going on in schools but nobody knows about it.
- Strong relationships (connections) make a strong student.
- PAC – let’s market it – not bad mouth it!
- Burnsville has a large medical and faith community. We could be known for these things if we build our Brand.
- Celebrate our diversity.
- Get the businesses into the schools for career days.
- Make the jobs happen here – start in High School – businesses come into the schools and show them what they need for their business.
- Some students have “summer lag” in the summertime – they don’t do anything. Develop a program to visit a different business every week. Give students the exposure to know what is here and what skills they would need to do the job.
- Recognize businesses as a “Star Business”. They could become one by paying their employees for a certain amount of hours to volunteer in the community, etc.
- Businesses want recognition and to know they are important to the community.
- Burnsville is aging – what is the impact?
- Find the leaders and bring them in.
- We don’t have to get everyone to believe in us – we just need to have the leaders participate.
- Reach out in a very public way. There are well kept secrets in Burnsville.
- Brand it!
- Market jobs – posting job opportunities in community.
- Strengthen partnerships with post secondary – train for jobs.
- Feeling that national trend needs to be addressed locally.
- What to do about economic well being for the low to middle income.
- Keeping “south of river” population “south of river” – related to transportation.
- Partnerships – businesses that are expanding – local support – Goodrich, COSTCO, Integra
- How to address barriers to bringing in business?
- Role of Chamber, City Council?
- Program for unemployed.
- Innovative program between work force center and local colleges.
